Students with learning and literacy difficulties, and students for whom English is not their first language, struggle with the literacy requirements of TAFE and VET delivered programs. They can find it difficult to access, participate and progress through the learning programs being provided, due to difficulties with reading, writing and organisational skills.
Assistive technologies can play a key role in removing literacy barriers and providing compensatory tools to accommodate the learning needs of students. This hands-on workshop will explore a range of assistive technology literacy support options on the iPad to support teachers and those delivering programs to optimize student learning, and to assist students’ to manage their own learning. The use of the research based Universal Design for Learning Guidelines (www.udlcenter.org) will be used as a framework to deliver the content of this workshop.

Greg O’Connor is the Education Services Manager with Spectronics. He has been actively involved in supporting the learning of people with diverse learning needs for 29 years. Greg's areas of interest and expertise include literacy support technologies for people with learning disabilities in school and post-school settings.
