​Vocational Education and Training

Under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) – Education Standards, if you have a vision or hearing impairment, physical or learning disability, neurological condition, mental health illness or chronic medical condition then you are entitled to support services by TasTAFE.

Planning your disability support arrangements involves discussing your learning requirements with a Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs).  The DLO may be able to arrange the following services to assist you with your studies:

  • Alternative arrangements for assessment (for example, additional time, scribe, reader)
  • Academic Support Workers (for example, note takers, interpreters, readers)
  • Access to adaptive technology (for example, voice activated software) 
  • Alternative format course materials (for example, braille, disk) 
  • Liaison with lecturers / teachers
  • Physical access to facilities 
  • Referral to other support services (for example, counselling, health, housing, financial aid, learning skills unit)
  • Enrolment and campus orientation

​TasTAFE focuses on real and practical learning, and takes an approach to education that meets the needs of all students and fully meets the expectations of employers. They can offer  a campus experience and learning environment that suits individual learning needs. Assessment will be based on practical demonstrations of your skills and knowledge.

The TasTAFE offers a range of courses to Year 11/12 students as well as adult learners.  The course choice is wide and varied and includes general education, Certificate I to IV courses, and Diplomas.  Many of these courses are offered by TAFEs in other states. 

The TasTAFE offers opportunties to earn Tasmanian Certificate of Education, gain nationally recognised qualifications or take an alternative pathway to university.
The TasTAFE has a number of campuses throughout Tasmania.

The Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) provides information and resources to support the work of disability practitioners in the postsecondary education and training sector. 

It is relevant to students, disability practitioners and teaching staff.
